Advice from a Cherrywood stylist: How to spice up your summer outfit

It’s still so hot in Austin, and if you’re like me, you’re totally sick of all of your summer clothes.  I’m a personal wardrobe stylist living here in the Cherrywood neighborhood, and I work with men and women to restyle or entirely overhaul their closets.  It’s that awkward time of year when all the offerings in the local shops are for fall pieces we won’t be able to wear until October (if we’re lucky).  So I’ve put together a few easy ways to spice up your shorts and t-shirts without buying anything too extravagant!

1. Hats:  Try a lightweight fedora or (my favorite) panama hat.  These are often available at Target or any department store or hat shop in town, and they will give your outfit a little extra style without any extra warmth.  Plus, you get a little shade for yourself…win/win!

2. Ankle Boots: Sometimes I let a little too much time go by between pedicures or I just don’t feel like wearing the same old sandals every single day of my life.  Wearing some ankle boots with summery dresses or shorts adds a little edge & interest to your outfit.  Just make sure the ankle boot comes down low enough on your actual ankle to prevent that cut-off leg look.

3. Print or Color:  Just because it’s painful to put on any clothing at all, doesn’t mean the stuff you’re wearing has to be totally boring.  Try wearing some bright-colored shorts with your white shirt or a printed button-down shirt instead of a tee.  Adding a little something festive to your wardrobe will help fight the summer doldrums!
