Backyard Concert Got Robinson Rocking

Written by Kevin Lane

On Saturday, March 14, Jessica and I hosted an afternoon of live music in our backyard, and it turned out to be a big hit! We had a great turnout of three bands and 100+ friends and neighbors.

Austin singer/songwriter Bo DePena played country blues on guitar, accompanied by a talented fiddle player. San Antonio art-pop-rockers Buttercup turned up the volume and the energy with a lively set. And Austin alt-country band San Saba County ended the beautiful day on a high note.

Why the show? My buddy Derek and I run the music blog Last Week’s Album, and we wanted to do an event around South by Southwest. But instead of dealing with traffic and crowds downtown, we opted to host the event in my and Jessica’s backyard. Who needs a stage when you’ve got green grass, a few amps, and sunshine?

Thanks to everyone who came out, and we hope even more of you can make it next time. We promise to do a better job of spreading the word in advance. Until then, keep on rockin’ in the free world!
