Beer, Bylaws, and City Politics

The Cherrywood Neighborhood Association hosted a happy hour/quarterly meeting on Wednesday, August 20th at in.gredients, and unsurprisingly beer, good conversation, and a beautiful summer evening at a favorite gathering spot made for a fun evening.  About forty people came out to chat with friends, neighbors, and the three candidates for the District 9 seat on the Austin City Council, Kathie Tovo, Chris Riley, and Erin McGann.

Neighbors asked the candidates about making the city more functional, various transit issues and the cost of the rail bond, changing the property tax policy, the availability of affordable housing, the responsiveness of city of city departments to citizens’ needs, how to support neighborhood schools, and more.

Former CNA Chair Jeremy Mazur called a brief quarterly meeting to order at 8 p.m. to vote on the proposed changes to the CNA bylaws. Rich Heyman, who chaired the task force that developed the proposals, described how they would improve the neighborhood association’s responsiveness and transparency, and the vote in favor was unanimous.

While it may not be possible to have all the quarterly meetings be happy hours, this was definitely worth repeating!
