Cherrywood Neighbors Participate in Dia de los Muertos Parade

On Saturday, October 19, several Cherrywood neighbors participated in the 30th annual Viva la Vida Festival and Parade organized by Mexic-Arte Museum. The street festival is Austin’s biggest and oldest Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration, and hundreds of people walked in the Grand Procession down East 6th St. from Comal to Congress Ave. dressed as calaveras (skeletons). There were families, chihuahuas, civic groups, dancers, floats, congressmen (Cherrywood’s former representative Lloyd Doggett), and Austin’s samba school, the Acadêmicos da Opera. Only in East Austin!
