District 9 Council Member Kathie Tovo to be at August CNA General Assembly

A year ago in August Kathie Tovo was on on the campaign trail with one stop being a Cherrywood general assembly meeting.  Kathie will be visiting us again at our August GM this time as Mayor ProTem and District 9 Council Member.

I know one thing Kathie is deeply involved in that is near and dear to our hearts and that is property taxes.

In May Council Member Tovo was the lead sponsor of a resolution calling for the city to file a petition challenging commercial appraisals based on a city-commissioned study that apparently found such properties were undervalued.

Then with the June 17 deadline looming to file a challenge with the Travis Central Appraisal District, council members said there simply wasn’t time to compile the detailed evidence needed to mount a successful challenge.

The City Council did agree to start hiring experts who can gather information on undervalued commercial properties to challenge those appraisals in 2015.

“We are not backing off; we are still moving forward,” said Council Member Kathie Tovo, who had proposed a challenge, then suggested waiting. Come to the August general meeting to hear what she has to say.
