[Chris Owan writes] Below is a contact for anyone interested in getting there boy(s) involved in the Boy Scouts. We don't have a Den as far as I know at Maplewood Elementary. My stepson is entering the first grade and we wanted to get him involved in Scouting. Thus, I have been doing some research and found out who the Pack Leader (Pack 28) is for our area. They are looking for someone to volunteer to be the Den leader for the 1st Graders (Tiger Cubs).  His name is Jon Wainwright. Here is part of an email I received from him:  Of course we would love to have your son in Cub Scouts with us. The only snag at this point is that no on has volunteered to organize a tiger Cub den for this year. I will be doing some recruiting for the position in the next few weeks, but there's no way to know whether any one will step forward. If you would be interested in taking this one, that would be GREAT. If you are, let me know and we can talk some more. Otherwise, I will definitely keep your name in my contacts list and let you know if we are able to get a Tiger Cub den off the ground.

Soccer league?

Okay, here's an idea. My hubby loves soccer, and plays. I played in junior high and would consider coming out for some friendly easy-going games. If there isn't actually a city ordinance against it (I can't imagine there would be), then why don't we form an informal co-ed Cherrywood league?  Any interested parties, please raise your hands.

Share nanny?

My wife and I are expecting our first in mid-October, and wanted to know if anyone in the French Place/Cherrywood area has thought of/would be willing to consider, nanny sharing.  We're not sure exactly what our child care arrangements are going to be, but had heard that some parents have had some success with having a single nanny take care of two infants, saving a bit on the cost.  We haven't found a nanny, so we're pretty early in the process, but if anyone is interested in pursueing this, please let me know.

Cherrywood Book Club Guidelines Addendum (03Aug3)    All the members of the Cherrywood book club would like to invite anyone interested in the book club to join us for our upcoming August meeting. It will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2003, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and we will be discussing Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air, the author's personal account of his tragic climb up and down Mt. Everest.     At our meetings, we very informally discuss the book we just read: what happened in it, our take on the characters, what we liked and didn't like about the book, etc. The meetings are never stuffy or highbrow; we're just a group of neighbors who get together to discuss what we've read in a fun, friendly atmosphere.     If you are interested in attending the meeting or have any other questions, please e-mail me or call me. We all look forward to seeing you!    -Jo Lynn- Meeting time, date, and place We will meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 7-9 pm at the homes of the members of the club.  The meeting place will rotate on a voluntary basis among the members of the group. Duties of that month’s host The host will provide dessert and some sort of beverage for the meeting. The host will send out an email approximately 2 weeks before the meeting at his or her house reminding the members of the book to be read, the meeting date and time, and instructions to the host’s home. The host should send out another email two or three days before the meeting as a second reminder and ask for a response from all members as to whether or not they will be attending. The host will also send out an email after the meeting to all members letting everyone know who attended and any important information that might need to be passed along to those who could not attend.  If the meeting was one of the book selection months (only every three months) then the host should also include in the email the next three books selected and the names of the members hosting those three months. Duties of the members To let the host know as soon as possible whether or not they will be attending a meeting. To read the book.  If the member finds the book particularly onerous, to make a good faith effort to get through a significant number of pages. To notify all other members if they decide they no longer wish to be a member (so they can be removed from the email list). Book Selection Books will be selected three at a time every three meetings.  The next three books will be selected during the meeting after which there is only one more book scheduled to be read. During the book selection process, every member attending that meeting can suggest one new book or reintroduce a book previously considered but not chosen.  The person who suggests the book should have information about the book so that he or she can give the other members  a general sense of the book.  After each person who wishes to has suggested a book, each member will vote for their top three choices.    The three books with the most votes will be the next three books on the reading list.  A member must be present at the meeting to suggest a book and vote. New Members New members are welcome at any time.  If we get to be too large of a group, we will split up into two smaller groups.  New members must: read the entire book for the first meeting that they attend.  read and agree to the guidelines in place before joining. ensure that the other members have his or her email address at least 5 days before first meeting that he or she attends. be somewhat committed to being a part of a group that meets regularly. live in the Cherrywood neighborhood.  However if an active member of the book club moves out of the Cherrywood neighborhood then that person may continue to be a member of the book club. notify all other members if they decide they no longer wish to be a member (so they can be removed from the email list).
