Household waste recycling rides again

Bopa-featuredLast weekend the Cherrywood Neighborhood Association held its second household waste collection at Cherrywood Green, helping unburden neighbors from those piles of tenacious items like old paint, oil, batteries, and dead electronics.

The load was a little lighter this time, maybe because we took care of the pent-up demand last time, but it was still enough to fill a sizable trailer. The response was just as enthusiastic, with thirty-seven Cherrywood neighbors showing up to take advantage of the service, some even leaving donations toward the effort.

Offering the service meant that neighbors would be spared having to schedule a drive to far southeast Austin during work hours. Once all the items were collected, we stored the full trailer over the weekend, then on Tuesday rented a truck to haul it to the City recycling facility when it was open and fully staffed.

Many thanks to all the neighbors who turned out, to the CNA Hazardous Waste Committee, Mike Sullivan, Jules Kniolek, and others for making this effort such a big success.

With such a continued positive response, the CNA will be considering another collection in November, and perhaps quarterly after that.

About Terry Dyke

I live in the old yellow house on Robinson with Marilyn Fenn, my wonderful and talented wife. A Cherrywood citizen since 2002, I've enjoyed neighborhood life, helping organize Film Night, instigating our neighborhood urban farm, and more recently, joining the CNA Steering Committee. I'm interested in energy and climate issues, and local resilience as a response to them. I also write about them on my blog.

Hello, Robert Mancuso here at 28th and Dancy. I am leasing my house soon and moving to Thailand. A neighbor suggested I list my house on Cherrywood Neighbor net. How would I do that? Is that what this venue is for? Thanks.
