Household waste recycling Saturday March 5

Bopa-featuredThis coming weekend the Cherrywood Neighborhood Association will hold its quarterly household waste collection at Cherrywood Green, helping unburden neighbors from those piles of tenacious items like old paint, oil, batteries, and dead electronics. Collection is from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday.

Some restrictions apply. Ordinarily, when individuals haul in their waste items for recycling, the full range of household hazardous waste items are eligible; however, since this comes under the regulations for a group haul, household waste items are restricted to “BOPA” — batteries, oil, paint and antifreeze.

What You Can Bring:

  • Batteries (any kind, large or small)
  • Oil (crankcase or cooking)
  • Paint in cans (no spray cans, though)
  • Anti-freeze

Also accepted are any dead electronics: computers, printers, TVs, monitors, cables, speakers, remotes, phones, routers, amplifiers — anything with a plug or batteries.

Response to the H-Waste program has been enthusiastic, with thirty or so Cherrywood neighbors showing up each time to take advantage of the service, some even leaving donations toward the effort.

Offering the service means that neighbors are spared having to schedule a drive to far southeast Austin during work hours. Once all the items are collected, we store the full trailer over the weekend, then on Tuesday haul it to the City recycling facility when it is open and fully staffed.

With such a continued positive response, the CNA has made this an ongoing program, offering the service on a quarterly basis.
