Kids Music Class with Music Bats Starting in the Neighborhood

Written by Gene Davis

The sight of a kid absolutely losing themselves in joy while banging on a drum—or a parent becoming visually happier at the chance to be goofy with their kid—simply never gets old.

Lucky for me, I got to see that happen over and over again during the inaugural session of Music Bats, the family music class I hold in Cherrywood. While those inaugural classes ended in December, I’m excited to kick off a whole new Music Bats session on Jan. 7 at 10:30 a.m. at The Servant Church, 1605 E. 38th 1/2 St.

Music Bats, which is for kids ages infant-4 and their caregiver/caregivers, features sing-a-longs, dancing, and hands-on time with a variety of instruments and props. I decided to start Music Bats in Cherrywood because I live on Werner Street with my girlfriend and dog, and my “kindie” band, The Que Pastas, plays the first Sunday of every month at Cherrywood Coffeehouse. I love how Music Bats has let me meet more neighbors and, on a personal level, serve as a stress reliever from my deadline-oriented day job as a journalist.

Anyone who wants to get in on the fun can register for the nine-week session or sign up for a free class by shooting me an email at . You can also learn more at or
