Leyla Colhmia Retires and is Honored at Austin High School Dedication Day

Leyla Cohlmia retired on Friday, May 3, 2013 after 36 years as a Chemistry teacher at Austin High School. Her former students honored her in a moving video that played at the AHS Dedication Day.

My favorite quote from the many alumni that were interviewed is “Ms. Cohlmia always said ‘jump higher, jump longer, be better.’  So she always made us strive to be our very best, and because of that I was able to go out there and conquer the world!”

Producer McLean Bell wraps up the video by saying “Ms. Cohlmia said she wanted to leave Austin High a better place, and she has done more than that. She has touched the lives of thousands, and changed the lives of every single person she has worked with. So today, we say thank you. Not on only as students and coworkers, but as friends. Thank you Ms. Cohlmia! You are the true definition of ‘Loyal Forever.'”

I never studied under Leyla, but now I wish I had. Your neighbors are so proud of you!
