Maplewood Fall Fest a Spooky Success

Written by Amanda Braziel Holleman

Maplewood’s Fall Fest was frightfully fun, pure and simple. On Saturday, October 26, Maplewood students, parents, and neighbors filled the outdoor area of the school grounds to participate in a variety of special carnival-type activities organized by Maplewood parents. Several staff members, including the PE teacher, Mr. Mark Ellison, 5th Grade teacher, Mr. Rich Levy, and the principal, Ms. Vickie Jacobson, braved the Mustangs’ sharp aim, which plunged them repeatedly into the icy depths of the Dunking Booth. Several outstanding University of Texas student volunteers served up squeals of terror in the Haunted House and squeals of delight at the Snack Stand, Cake Walk, Ring Toss, Bean Bag Toss, Bouncy House, and Obstacle Course.

The event was a perfect example of the power of volunteerism in our community. Fall Fest is an annual fundraiser for the school’s PTA, which supports students’ academic opportunities by purchasing supplies, technology, field trips, books, and more for Maplewood Elementary School.
