Maplewood Mustangs Stampede at Mueller

Written by Dusty Harshman

On Saturday, March 29th, 2014, Maplewood Elementary School held their first annual Mustang Stampede. This one kilometer “fun run”, brought Maplewood children and their parents and teachers together in stride to circle Mueller Lake Park.

It was a beautiful spring morning, and the run was just one of the activities for families. The event was also organized around a Health Fair, that included a rock climbing wall, free massages and yoga demonstrations. Live music was offered by the Loveleighs and Maplewood’s own Ukulele Choir singing and strumming to “Yellow Submarine”, “You Are My Sunshine”, and “What’s So Funny About Peace, Love, and Understanding.”

The Stampede was also nifty fundraiser, exceeding ell expectations as parents, grandparents, and the school community “sponsored” the runners to the tune of almost $12,000. Many thanks to all that ran, organized and sponsored the Mustang Stampede, sure to be a new Maplewood tradition.
