Maplewood’s Spring Fling a Hoola Hooping Hit

Written by Deb Palmer

Did you hear the drums and ukeleles emanating from Maplewood Elementary School’s outdoor stage last Saturday May 3? It was the annual Spring Fling! Maplewood’s 4-6th graders played their best in a sound off between the ukelele choir and the drum choir, with the fifth graders filling in the gaps with some rousing songs.

The younger kids had their fun too. There were hula hoop contests (congratulations to the AMAZING winners, they never ever dropped those hoops!!) and sack races. there was face painting, pony rides, a bike rodeo, and balloon animals, and lots and lots of food and merriment. The sixth grades sold tons of popcorn to support their upcoming trip to the NASA Space Center in Houston. Many Maplewood families, and some future and past Maplewood families, all showed up to join the fun. Cherrywood neighbors are invited to this annual event; if you were there, you know how much fun was had. If you couldn’t make it, we hope you’ll come on out next year and share a hot dog and a song!
