Mueller Brazil Music Series Begins With Free Show Friday, June 5th

Written by Matt Hinsley, Austin Classical Guitar

Susanna Sharpe photoI arrived in Austin in 1996 at age 20 to begin my Masters in Music at UT. That same fall Austin Classical Guitar, a small local nonprofit, was looking for new leadership. Since I had founded a student club during my undergraduate years at Oberlin, they asked me to take over. That was 19 years ago!

We’re now, by far, the largest nonprofit classical guitar organization in the country. We have many entertainment events, but our main programming is in education. We’ve just opened our 51st school program locally, and assist many others abroad.

A challenge presenting music in Austin has been finding a great concert hall with world class acoustics, that’s not too big and not too small. We were thrilled to find that a magnificent new hall has just been built in Mueller!

This summer we’ll present three spectacular Brazilian acts in the new AISD Performing Arts Center (1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd.). We’re new to the neighborhood, so we’ve made a special 25% discount with the code “Cherrywood” to encourage you to check them out!

To kick the series off we’re presenting the Susanna Sharpe Brazilian Quintet this Friday, June 5th, in a free outdoor show from 6-8 p.m. at the Mueller Lake Park Amphitheater.

Susanna is a great Austin treasure, and I invite you to join us!
