Plant and Book Swap

The Cherrywood Plant and Book Swap is a held in the spring and fall, and is an opportunity for neighbors to share the bounty in their yards and bookshelves. It is a great opportunity to talk about gardening, clean out beds and bookshelves, get organized, go green and it’s free. Stop by the Cherrywood Green (located at Cherrywood and E. 34th St.) to trade your hardy plant for Thomas Hardy. You don’t have to bring a plant or book to participate.

The event is co-hosted by Jack Darby and Ericka Allbright. For more information, contact email Jack Darby at or visit http://cherrywoodswap.com.

Easter Egg Hunt and Potluck

CNA hosted a neighborhood egg hunt and potluck on Friday, March 29 at the Cherrywood Green.  Approximately 40 parents and little ones (and a few big kids!) joined in the fun. There were dozens of eggs filled with stickers, tatoos, bouncy balls, bracelets, goldfish crackers and more, as well as many cascarónes. The confetti-filled eggs were a hit, and everyone enthusiastically smashed them on their friends and family’s heads.  It was a perfect evening for a picnic, and many people lingered into the evening over lemonade, muffins, dips, fruit, and cake. The event was co-hosted by the East Side Mommas Meetup group, to which many Cherrywood families belong.

Neighborhood Tree Planting

This annual event is in its 15th year and takes place in October or early November. To date more than 490 trees have been planted and some of the early trees are rather large now.  The cost per tree runs around $25, and normally we have a selection of Texas Mountain Laem, so all you have to do is sign up.  All proceeds are donated to Cherrywood Green, our neighborhood pocket park, so you are doing double good for the neighborhood–planting a tree in your yard and helping out our park!!  If you are interested or have general tree planting questions email Mike Damal at .  The beautiful canopy of trees in Cherrywood is one of the many things which makes our neighborhood special, and it is important to maintain it for future generations!
