Plant Swap Meets Pi Day

Written by Erika Allbright

This past Saturday was Pi Day, 3.14.15! Coincidentally, the beloved twice-annual Cherrywood Plant and Book Swap was held that very day. The weather was lovely, sunny and pleasant, as neighbors and friends arrived bearing plants and books to share.

Travis County Master Gardeners were on hand to answer questions about plants and soil. The Compost Pedallers came by to share some of the wonderful compost they make with the neighborhood’s food scraps. Pies were homemade and brought for sharing … YUM!

The Maplewood Elementary Ukulele Choir treated us to sweet music there on Cherrywood Green, while birds sang and sweet younger neighbors played happily on the grass.

Lots of plants found happy homes, and many books too. By the way, left-over books go to support Maplewood Elementary School Library and Inside Books Project, as well as more local non-profit groups.

Friends met, and new friends made each others’ acquaintance. Everyone shared their gardening tips and experiences. It was a very sweet time. Look for the next occasion in Fall 2015, and join us!
