September 2013 Mueller Update

Written by Rick Krivoniak

With the H-E-B and other Mueller Market District businesses now open, the installation of signals on Barbara Jordan Blvd. and Mueller Blvd. seems much more urgent. Please call 311 if you witness accidents or unsafe conditions at this or any other location in order to speed up he process of signal installation. With enough public outcry for these signals, we may not be forced to wait for the scheduled October traffic counts and State-mandated “trigger” amount of traffic.

Besides H-E-B, the Market District will include Xian Sushi, Twin Liquors, Verts, River Rock Dental, Great Clips and Wynn Nails. New retailers at Barbara Jordan and Lancaster are Green-Gos, Smashburger, Boneheads and Mattress Firm. The 112-room Marriott Residence Inn has moved its opening date back to October, and there’s no word on the retail/restaurant occupant for its Lancaster and 51st Street corner. I’ve been assured that there will be a local restaurant with a full bar occupying the space overlooking 51st and Berkman sometime soon.

Anyone curious about the mowing of prairie grasses in Mueller’s Southwest Greenway will be glad to know that was done due to an acute shortage of local bison. The mowing mimics the effects of grazing bison who would have eaten the grasses, herbs and flowers. Also, mowing summer-flowering plants (bluebonnets, Indian blankets, Mexican hats, etc.) and other grasses scatters their seeds, which have now set, and sunlight will stimulate germination for next spring. Thanks to Mueller’s Janelle Dozier for this information!

The next RMMAPIAC meeting is Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 6PM in Meeting Room 1 of the Carver Library, 1161 Angelina Street. Please send Mueller-related questions & comments to .
