Thank you Cherrywood

I’d like to say THANK YOU to all the people that turned out for this year’s second quarterly meeting of the Cherrywood Neighborhood Association.  We had plenty of good engagement as the group reached decisions on all action items.

We also heard an announcement by a Manor Road merchant regarding formation of a City-sanctioned merchant’s association in the neighborhood.

Our guest speaker of the evening, David Westenbarger, presented about our neighbors to the south, the Blackland Community Development Corporation,  who have rolled up their shirtsleeves to help others in their community with housing needs.

Blackland’s many years of organizational work in creating their village may not be evident as you drive through the ‘hood, but if you have ever wondered what the deal is with the houses with dominoes on their facades, I invite you to see this video to learn more about the work they’re doing in the Blackland village. Just follow this link http://www.blacklandcdc.org/who-we-are/

The attendance and participation at the meeting and the many conversations in the hall  afterward highlights how we are making progress in organizing ourselves as a community of passionate people who want to participate in continuing to build and maintain a sense of village.  I ask that you please help us keep moving forward with fresh ideas and more community engagement.

This year we will be continuing the effort to study the possibility of incorporating Cherrywood.   We will continue to look for ways to create our own “FUN FOR HUNDREDS” and we will continue to provide informative and entertaining presentations through our Programs Committee.  As we strive to maintain and develop our village, please consider joining in and helping.

So what’s coming down the pike?  So far on the August agenda is a visit from our District 9 Council Member, Mayor Pro Tem Kathie Tovo.

And don’t forget on Saturday to bring your BOPA (Batteries, Oil, Paint and Antifreeze) and e-products (computers, computer monitors, televisions, printers, etc.) to the Green 10 AM to 4 PM, where they will be collected for delivery to the Austin Resource Center by DonJon Vonovitch.

Stay tuned for more.

About Jules Kniolek

Currently funding life as a residential design-builder having done projects in and around Austin, Honduras and Greece. Previous method of sustainment was high tech chip design engineer and manager. I like to walk or ride my Harley to the book store to pick up a good read. Or outside of town to meditate by a creek. Or to a local club or historic dancehall to two-step or swing dance (throw in some lindy-hop and a zydeco here and there).
