A Word of Thanks from the Departing Chair

It’s time to pass the torch, my stint as chair of the Cherrywood Neighborhood Association is done now. It’s been a pleasure working with the great team of people that made up the 2015-2016 CNA Steering Committee.

This team took the matter of “organizing the CNA” to heart and have the results to show for it. I am proud to report just a few of these accomplishments here, with big kudos to the Steering Committee and every member of the Association.

  • 03/2015 – Neighborhood hazardous waste collection (“BOPA”) program created
  • 04/2015 – Programs Committee, Upper Boggy Creek Committee established
  • 05/2015 – Cherrywood Green Kiosk built and installed by Steering Committee volunteers with CNA funding; SC approved purchase of CNA projector; first BOPA collection held. Now in its eighth quarter, BOPA turnout has averaged 45 neighbors per collection. Second only to The Flea, this is CNA’s most popular program
  • 06/2015 – Nominating Committee staffed; projector purchased for use at general meetings; CNA nonprofit incorporation study begun
  • 07/2015 – First CNA annual budget created, along with program-oriented bookkeeping that conforms to IRS nonprofit reporting requirements; UBC Capital Improvement Program (CIP) priorities adopted by general membership
  • 09/2015 – Neighborhood Partnering Program (NPP) introduced to SC
  • 10/2015 – CHERRYWOODSTOCK music festival initiated
  • 11/2015 – YES MA’AM BRASS BAND performed at general meeting; Development Services program established
  • 02/2016 – Introduced sponsorship process for SC representation of general members’ agenda items; 2017 Nominating Committee convened; neighborhood rock band BAT CITY played at February general meeting
  • 03/2016 – SC sponsorship process and guest protocol adopted; Neighborhood Partnering Program participation initiated. Voted to submit proposal for October 2017 NPP round; bylaws amendment proposals introduced to allow members to raise new business at general meetings, and also to establish “opt-in” membership for the CNA
  • 05/2016 – Resolution to review bylaws Articles IV & V passes
  • 08/2016 – Cherrywoodstock funding approved
  • 09/2016 – First Annual CHERRYWOODSTOCK music festival held at Patterson Park

Thank you, CNA and Steering Committee members.  I look forward to working with the 2017 Steering Committee as we transition the Association’s ongoing work to the new team.

About Jules Kniolek

Currently funding life as a residential design-builder having done projects in and around Austin, Honduras and Greece. Previous method of sustainment was high tech chip design engineer and manager. I like to walk or ride my Harley to the book store to pick up a good read. Or outside of town to meditate by a creek. Or to a local club or historic dancehall to two-step or swing dance (throw in some lindy-hop and a zydeco here and there).
