Two Cherrywood musicians are participating in the Stage to Studio Series run by KUTX this month, Tricia Mitchell and Ben Stevens . The local public radio station has selected five Austin based musicians who have played at the monthly Open Mic at the UT Cactus Cafe to record some of their original songs at the studio.

KUTX opened the selection of the best one up to the public, and you can vote for what will become one of their songs of the day. As of the publication of this post, Tricia is in 2nd place with 29% of the vote, and Ben is in 4th place with 15%. We’re thrilled that our neighborhood musicians have gotten some much deserved recognition, and between Ben and Tricia you can’t go wrong. Looking forward to hearing much more from both of them!

The bios below are from the the KUTX website. Visit it to hear recordings by Tricia and Ben and cast your vote!

Blues man Ben Stevens is the winner of the 2011-2012 Heart Of The Blues Challenge and has proudly represented Austin in the 2012 International Blues Competition. Ben’s music echoes with decades of blues inspiration while still approaching the genre with fresh, groovy ideas. Keep an eye out for his new CD due out 2014, consisting of all original material!

Tricia Mitchell writes country-folk that echoes with rock and “Texas-flavored twang” influence. Her piercing lyrics can’t be summarized into any individual genre, but all tend to touch a unique spot in the emotional spectrum. Tricia may be kept busy as a wife and mother, but her songs don’t lack in attention for detail in their exemplary storytelling.
