Windmill Bicycles is Turning One!

Written by Sarah Goeth Mammel, co-owner of Windmill Bicycles

This year has been a Texas tornado – after spending 16 days gutting and rebuilding the store last November, we opened the doors on December 2nd, 2012. I’m still unsure about whose ‘dream’ we are realizing. I believe this bike shop was initially our Mom’s way of bribing my brother, Aaron, and I to move back to Texas. We were called home by family for this adventure, and we feel like we’re adding relatives every day. I credit Mom for the idea and Dad for the name; it’s his grandfather whose windmill still pumps water at our home in southeast Bexar County.

Now, as we’re closed this week to put a fresh face on the shop, I feel like I’ve been sitting in this store for much longer than a year. It’s a pleasure to wave at y’all as you ride by, pump up your tires at Bike-to-Work and Bike Rodeo days, and watch your kids pedaling on their own for the first time in our store. I sincerely hope we’re around for another year, and another, and another…

To thank you for lovingly welcoming us into Cherrywood, we’d like for you all to come celebrate with us on Sunday, December 1st. Refreshments will be served beginning at 6pm by East Side King, Flat Track Coffee, Rhea’s Ice Cream, The Juice Well, Uncle Billy’s Brewery, and Tito’s Vodka. Nails Y’all will be giving bicycle-themed manicures, and our dad and brother’s band, The Mesquite Ramblers, will start playing at 7pm. All of these fine folks will be working for tips, so bring some dollars, your dancing shoes, and your black tie – I’ll be wearing sequins!

Thanks for helping us live this dream, neighbors – we’re grateful for your continued support. Happy Thanksgiving!
